Payment
Students will need to pay if they would like to receive breakfast or lunch. You can pay online using MySchoolBucks Link. You can pay online or in person with cash or check. You can send in money with your kids to school as well.
Prices Link, menus Link, and information about paying online for lunch is on the PWCS Food & Nutrition Department Website Link. Also, you may not know, but since we are K-8, all students at TNS only have the option for elementary lunches, so when you look at the information, use the elementary menus and prices. This is something we are seeking to change, so that middle level students can have a more typical middle level lunch.
Meal Assistance Program
Meals are available free for eligible students in Prince William County Public Schools. In order to receive these benefits, you must apply for meal assistance every year. Applications filed last year are only good for the first few days of school. Children from households that meet Federal Income Guidelines shown in the online application below are eligible for free meals. Online applications are typically processed within 48 hours of submission.
Households receiving SNAP or TANF for their children or who have foster children may not have to fill out an application. School officials will notify those households of children who do not need to apply. If you do not receive notification by August 25, 2023, you must contact the Food and Nutrition Department and submit an application.
Student ID Numbers
Students will use their PWCS Student ID Numbers when buying lunch or breakfast. Younger students may use an ID Card to swipe instead if they don’t know it yet. Please practice with your child so they can remember this number.
No Child Hungry
We will never let a child go hungry. If a student does not have funds, we won’t bring it up with them in front of their peers or at all. We will only communicate to parents about this. So don’t stress too much, and just catch up when you can for payments. Additionally, we have extra snacks at school if your child is hungry during the day. Teachers also set up snack time throughout the day depending on the lunch schedule.
Peanut Butter
Students are allowed to eat peanut butter for lunch in the cafeteria. We will arrange our cafeteria space to accommodate students with nut allergies.
We do have many classrooms that will be peanut-free classrooms due to student allergies.
General Reminders
Please remind your child that he or she should never eat food or any other object that someone else offers them. Your child should also not offer other students any of their food to eat.
Also, we do not permit parents to bring in food from outside to other students than their own child(ren).
