Attendance Updates to School

Option 1 for Reporting an Absence - ParentVUE

Please use ParentVUE to report that your child is or will be absent from school. You have the option to use the web version or download the approriate app for your mobile device.

Prince William County Public Schools link for more information about ParentVUE.

Mobile App: Please download the appropriate application.

Once you login, choose the student and click "Report Absence." Then enter the information in the pop-up screen. See example below:

Example of ParentVUE absence reporting form

Please enter in the absence as soon as possible. This includes any current absences, past absences or future planned absences. This is the fastest way to prevent the school from having the automated call to your phone about the absence. This also creates less work for the office staff since ParentVUE automatically syncs these absences in our system instead of the office staff having to manually enter the information.

Option 2 for Reporting an Absence

Another option to notify the school about an absence is by using the TNS Attendance & Dismissal Form as soon as possible if you know your child(ren) will be absent from school, including the reason they will or were absent or tardy. Access the attendance form using the link below so we have all the information needed from you to record the absence.

More Attendance Information

Schools are required to ensure students attend school every day. We must monitor attendance, absences, and come up with plans to have our students attend school if it appears they are becoming chronically absent. According to the Virginia Department of Education, chronic absenteeism is defined as "missing ten percent or more of the academic year for any reason, including excused absences, unexcused absences, and suspensions. Based on a 180-day school year, that means approximately 18 days per year or 2 to 3 days per month." When students reach 5, 10, and more absences, we will be making contact with parents so we know what is going on with the student and how we can work together to have the student back in school on a more regular basis.
