Class Announcement:


Here are some immediate things and suggestions you can work on at home. Everything I have added coincides with projects and units that have already been introduced. Please remember, these are just suggestions and are optional:

-Read, read, read!! You may continue to write summaries each week in your Reader's Notebook.

Figurative Language and Poetry:

- Write poetry- similes, metaphors, free verse. I’ll send a few mini lessons about rhyme scheme as well. This way you can practice writing rhymed poetry.
- Song Lyric Scavenger Hunt! Find school-appropriate song lyrics that contain figurative language, specifically simile, metaphor, and hyperbole. Use your anchor chart with the definitions in your Reader's Notebook to help you. Make sure you write down the lyric and the evidence of figurative language that you heard.
- I created a folder in the Files and Documents tab. Check it out!


- Research 10-20 cool facts about Canada and compare how life in Canada is different than life in the US. 
-Print a blank map of Canada and label the ten provinces and three territories.You can create a travel brochure, similar to what you did for the Midwest.

All About Books:

- You know that awesome All About book we started? You can still work on it!! I added all of the things you have in your folder at school.
- I'll add some links and suggestions of places you can research too. Check out World Book Online on TNS Symbaloo.

Print a blank map of the United States and challenge yourself to add as many states and capitals as you remember. Color each region with a different color. I'll upload one to a folder for you to print.

I understand that this may be a confusing time for everyone, so I will do my best to provide you with up-to-date information, resources, links, and suggestions for you and your child to stay connected to the fifth grade expectations and curriculum. Please be patient.

I miss you all. I cannot wait to see you again. I do not know when that will be, but please know you're all in my thoughts. I can't wait to laugh with you, read to you, and teach you again.
